Youth of the nation poem

ENOUGH LIES and BAD FAITH! WE ARE PEOPLE IN REBELLION!

         We refuse the construction of an Industrial Rubbish Tip on our lands!
         We refuse the irreversible pollution of the sea, the earth and the atmosphere!
         We refuse immigration and plundering of our heritage!

Philippe Gomes (Southern Province): Withdraw your ICPE authorization and stop your corruption!
Scott Hand (Inco limited): our nation, our lagoon, our land, are not a rubbish tip or a trial laboratory for a Canadian multinational!

Youth of this nation,
You are an indigenous Kanak, son and daughter of this land;
You are of mixed race and not sure of your position ;
You are a coming citizen, son or daughter of a man or woman from elsewhere ;
This call is for you !

Don't let this land die!
The land of your ancestors, bequeathed since the beginning of time
From generation to generation by a divine continuity;
The adopted land at the price of the suffering of your grandparents
The earth, the sea, the air that nourish you healthily and wholesomely

The whale calf has desperately called out from Prony bay
Huge sharks devoured it, that was 2002.
He announced the coming of the big predator, the multinational Inco
Other whales have since beached,
  By this year's numbers, they announce an imminent catastrophe.

13- 14 July 2002, Göô Vare Kan was rising towards the sky
"Let's protect our land and defend our rights" such is the message ;
The Kaavöö, the Great of the land of Djubéa Kapone,
Have come together with the Taboo;
  The great, they were accompanied by the chiefs of 7 Kanak lands
Xaracùù, Aje Arho, Paîcî Camuhi, Hoot Maa Waap, Iaî, Drehu and Nengone
Since then, This word has become the word of all the nation.

Three seasons of yams (Wèè Tchà), four Djii Djarù have lived,
Rhéébù Nùù continues to take this word of Göö Vare Kan.
The bays of Oro and from Gadji to the Island of pines, the southern reefs of the Ouen Isle
Have received their first crimson pollutions from Kwé and from Prony.

Soon, it will be a transparent pollution, 40 thousand cubic metres of solution at forty degrees;
25 heavy metals or five thousand tonnes dissolved,
The Havanah's current will deposit them in our bays,
On our southern reefs, from the east or from the west.

Soon, the dreaded acid rains will start their action,
Then, we will see our forests, and native plants
Burn before our helpless selves

Rhéébù Nùù: What is the purpose of calling out Kanak Identity and Noumea accords
if we are foreigners on the land of our ancestors...

This time Rhéébù Nùù has decided to put an end;
  A non violent action, as espoused by our republican system;
The system which has chosen profit as its king,
Exploitation for rules, plunder and contempt ,
Whose ways are pollution and corruption

The system which since 2001, despite the opening of the Noumea accords,
Refuses to acknowledge the rights of the indigenous population,
Refuses to apply the environmental laws,
Which it has set for itself,
In France, in Europe or in Canada.
This system, whose champions never keep their word
Each time trying to buy the weak
And destroy the hope held by Rhéébù Nùù ;

Since two thousand and six years, this month of april
Easter will be celebrated ;
The new yam –Kû- will be offered throughout the land,
Everyone will be able to appreciate its purity and flavour!
The ancestor and legend will be the first served
Then we'll await the coming of the whale, to follow the line of the furrow
Yam and taros such has been the way for centuries.

This wealth, worth all the world's gold and nickel, "poogras".
   let's all stand up!
Let's stop the construction of the GORO NICKEL factory
Before the unmendable happens!
YOUNG indigenous and citizens, the future belongs to us!
Your destiny, your environment is now!

Write and petition: to the southern province, to the state, to the northern province and to the loyalty islands province, to the European commission and to the UN.
"Let's ask and insist on the end of the construction of the southern factory"

Our nickel and cobalt ore will not escape to Canada or elsewhere.

We want real sustainable development with a nickel production that serves our country, that answers the needs of our people and youth.

Like the Labrador and Inuits-Inu province, we must impose our rights and the absolute respect of our natural and human environment.

Rhéébù Nùù: A people only has that which it fights for… What's the point of crying out Kanaky will win if we let our natural heritage get destroyed and plundered.
